A Hunger for Life: Creating a Vibrant, Creative Home

“In the course of one very bad year, I broke my back and was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Janie said. “Now, I definitely do not recommend this experience. Choose one or the other, but not both at the same time!” She laughed. “So after I got through that, and I finally was able to be back in my house, with my own room, my own bed, my own things – and I hated it.”

“Previous to everything that happened, I was what I would call a cautious person,” Janie continued. “At least in terms of home design. I kept things very basic. Lots of beige. White walls. After all, I was going to sell this house someday.” She became more serious. “Well, I came very close to dying without selling the house. So what was that all for?”

Custom Home Design: When You’re Ready to Choose Joy

“That’s what convinced me I needed a different house. I did go ahead and sell my sad house, so I could have my happy house custom built.” Janie laughed. “The builders were great. I went in and told them I wanted a house that made it easy to smile – and they delivered exactly that.”

It’s fair to say Janie was not what you’d call cautious with her design choices. “What I appreciated is the way that the Hopkinton custom home design process kept nothing off the table. I said I wanted a Tuscan style kitchen that opened onto a screened in deck with seating for my ten best friends and me. No problem.” She laughed. “I said I wanted a living room you can dance in. No problem. They made it all happen, and everything looks cheerful and happy and fun.”

Lifestyle experts agree that undergoing a significant medical event or other life change can really impact the way you feel about your home. Changing homes or renovating your existing home to better suit your world view can be a very exciting experience – but you also need to be prudent with your funds. Choose an experienced custom home builder to support you with their expertise and insight throughout this process.
