Contrast & Color: Why Mixed Materials in the Kitchen May Be the Look You Love Best

July 15, 2022 by admin

Goodbye grey & boring – hello lots and lots of color. Industry kitchen design experts have been watching a significant change in what homeowners want their new kitchens to look like. There’s a hunger for happiness that’s being satisfied with kitchens full of contrast, color, space and storage.

About Contrast: Pretty & Practical Approach to Kitchen Design

One very big kitchen design trend right now is mixing materials in the kitchen. The goal here is to contrast in appearance and texture to create a more engaging environment. This can mean using two different finish metals, having cabinet doors of different styles, even different types of countertop.

In addition to being a very attractive look when done well, centering contrast in your design aesthetic allows for easier sourcing of materials. If supply chain issues become a concern, a wider range of products can be considered as alternatives. This will help keep the budget down and the project on schedule.

About Color: Be Bright, Be Bold, Be Yourself

After decades and decades of all white or monochrome kitchens, homeowners have decided that now it’s time for color. As kitchen contractors near Milton, we’re seeing this play out in cabinetry, countertops, wall finishes, and appliances. In cabinetry, look for different color finishes on cabinetry in different areas of the room – for example, the island may not match the gallery cabinetry. Countertop color selection tends to be slightly more conservative, but when it comes to wall finishes, it’s time to have fun. An exciting new trend to keep an eye on: color changing appliances, like the new Samsung Bespoke refrigerator.

Space & Storage: More Room for More Fun

If your kitchen was built before the pandemic, chances are that you don’t have enough storage space. Household habits truly changed during this period, especially for families with young children. Having enough space for groceries and household staples is very important. At the same time, the trend here in the Milton area has definitely been toward the larger kitchen. Ideally, there’s enough space for everyone to gather comfortably.
