What 4 Kitchen Design Trends Are On Their Way Out?

You are here: Home / Kitchen & Bath Remodel / What 4 Kitchen Design Trends Are On Their Way Out?
March 31, 2022 by admin

Of all of the rooms in the home, the kitchen is most likely to be impacted by changes in style trends. This is because so many elements of a kitchen – things like cabinetry, countertops, and appliances – are large and fixed in place. It doesn’t take long – on average, between 8-15 years – before a kitchen can start looking dated. This can diminish your enjoyment of the kitchen, as well as negatively impacting the value of your home.

With that in mind, if you’re planning your Wayland kitchen remodel, it’s a good idea to know what trends kitchen design professionals have already identified as being on the way out the door. While each of these looks or design elements was strong on its own merits and will continue to have some fans, you can expect to see less of these four trends in the future:

All White Kitchens: No doubt, the all white kitchen does provide a sleek, modern look. But when lived in, the all white kitchen proved to be hard to keep clean. In addition to the upkeep, an all white kitchen can feel cold and sterile – not the look most people are after, two years into a global pandemic.

Double Ovens: While double ovens do make cooking a lot of food at once a snap, for most people, it’s hard to justify using the space in the kitchen that way. The popularity of smaller appliances such as InstaPot are indicative of a change in cooking styles.

Low Backsplashes: A backsplash’s primary function is to protect the walls from grease, food splatter, and other kitchen disasters. Low backsplashes are fine in kitchens where not much cooking gets done, but it turns out most families prefer the full wall protection a traditional backsplash profile – up to the bottom of the cabinetry – provides.

Brass Finishes: As kitchen contractors in Wayland, we can tell you we’ve seen kitchen hardware trends come and go many times over the years. If you love your brass finish, keep it: it will be trendy once again in the foreseeable future. If you wound up with brass in the kitchen because it was the trendy choice but it’s really not your thing, this is the ideal time to change it up in your new kitchen!
