How Much Kitchen Storage Is Enough?

You are here: Home / Home Improvement / How Much Kitchen Storage Is Enough?
August 27, 2019 by admin

One of the biggest questions you’re going to face when planning your kitchen remodel is how are you going to handle storage? We all need more space in our lives. In the kitchen, storage concerns cover three basic areas: food storage; dishes, glassware, and cooking gear storage; and appliance storage.

When you’re working with your Weston kitchen designer, they’re going to ask you a lot about your storage needs. Every family is different, so when someone says they just have the ‘usual’ amount of dishes or pots and pans, there can actually be a great deal of variety to plan and accommodate for.

Storage preferences are also a thing. Here in the Weston area, it’s not unusual for homeowners to prefer to keep food storage in the kitchen to a relative minimum, using a pantry to store dry goods, pots and pans, small appliances, table linens and more. Serious wine fans may wish to have a special area built to store their favorite bottles – you don’t have to have a cellar!

Within the kitchen, considering storage means looking at your cabinetry options carefully, as well as considering open shelving and kitchen islands. This can represent a major portion of the cost of your kitchen renovation, so we spend time going over all of your options carefully to make sure you’re thrilled with your final decisions. It’s an intense process, but it can also be a lot of fun.

While you’re planning your kitchen renovation, a good idea is to do an actual inventory to help you determine your storage needs. During this process, many homeowners find they have items they don’t necessarily want anymore. This is an opportunity to downsize painlessly. Donating, selling, or passing along these kitchen items helps many homeowners feel less overwhelmed by the need to create storage for them in the new kitchen.
